Hello, my name is Signe. I founded Capucine Studio several years ago - back then I was printing linoleum block greeting cards and prints. My formal education is an art degree with an emphasis in painting. So far my careers have been in clothing design and metalsmithing. Close to my heart right now is creating these sock monkeys. I sew them on the same black Singer Featherweight that my mother learned to sew on. I've loved sock monkeys since I was a a child. Now as an adult, I am really attracted to their nostalgic spirit. They just seem to carry a lot of history and soul. Many of the ones I make are imbued with my own personal nostalgia. The punks, the cholos, the dachshunds, the polygamists - they were all there.

A friend told me that when she comes home at the end of a hard day and sees her Capucine sock monkey sitting on the bed, it brings a smile to her face. If I can take the edge off anybody's hard day with one of these funny creatures, then I'll feel pretty good about what I do. I hope you enjoy them!
